The story of the 1971 Grand Prix des Nations time trials - professional and amateur - where Britons Les West, Phil Griffiths and Derek Cottingham took on the Europeans ... and lost.
In the pros West was 14th out of 17 and ten minutes down on Ocana. In the amateurs Cottingham and Griffiths were 14th and 19th out of 20; both at over 6 minutes in arrears to Bischoff. A tough lesson.

It would be great to publish more from these magazines - BUT I need to find the person or organisation that currently holds the copyright. So HELP! If you can point me towards the copyright owners then please get in touch. It’s over 35 years since the story was published in ICS. It seems unlikely that anyone will now be prepared to republish the magazine’s content commercially. Contact me via “info” at “internationalcyclesport.com” with any feedback.
