Blank Spaces Dateline: 4-Apr-2011 It’s 2009 since I wrote anything about the Elite Women - but then it’s even longer since I last made it to a major women’s road race; probably the 2005 Grand Prix of Wales >>
I keep hoping that GB will host a race that is ranked in the international Elite calendar - but even the elite men only have one domestic race [now called the - TESCO Rutland-Melton UCI International Cicle Classic!] plus the Tour of Britain.
The 2011 road season has started out with mixed results. The good news is that Emma Pooley is still up there in the World Cup - lying second to Annemiek Van Vleuten; who won last weekend’s Tour of Flanders. But the bad news is that Emma is currently the only UK rider with any points And even though there other top class GB riders they are either competing on the track, in cyclo-cross, in BMX or, as in Nicole Cooke’s case, out through illness.
I am struggling to find something useful or interesting to contribute about the GB elite road riders or the international calendar - but at present it looks like being another blank year.
