Grand Touring

Just Looking...
Taking a modern version of the Grand Tour with a camera, instead of the bike, can be a good way to break the routine and improve relations with other family members at the same time. Even though my holidays always seem to coincide with some cycling event and happen to be near the venue!

champagne1The original Grand Tour was typically a slow progression from England to Paris, Geneva, Florence, Pisa, Venice, Rome and Naples then back through Innsbruck, Vienna, Berlin, Dresden, Heidelberg, Amsterdam and Bruges. Places that are still high on the tourist agenda over 300 years later. But now the lengths of stay can be as short as a few hours rather than the weeks or months enjoyed by the well-off tourists of the past.

Air travel has greatly increased the range of places to include in your own grand tour - but time is often restricted to 2 to 3 weeks for most of us. So here are some thoughts on places to visit where there is some cycling interest but without needing to actually take a bike with you.

First up some notes on Australia - with more destinations to follow soon
