A Unique Location
Many places claim to be unique but for the cyclist Briancon really does back up this claim with some hard facts.

Few towns can boast having hosted both the Giro di Italia and the Tour de France. In fact the Tour de France has started / finished in Briancon no fewer than 22 times since World War II. Being positioned between major alpine passes means that the Giro also often uses Briancon as a stage town - and sometimes creating a situation where both visit in the same year; as it was in 2007.

But Briancon is much more than an over-night stop - see the
municipal web site - it is has a rich historical heritage and some of the best scenery in Europe.

In fact the majority of visitors do to come for the major tours, many not knowing about the cycling connections, but for the winter sports and summer scenery.
