A New Year Starts Dateline 31 March 2008 With the World Championships marking the end of one season we are straight into the 2008-9 calendar. And looking through the UCI schedules the events that would appeal to me [given the time and money] include -
30-Jun-08 to 05-Jul-08 6 Days of Torino at the San Francesco al Campo track (ITA) 07-Jul-08 to 12-Jul-08 6 Days “Delle Rose” at the Pacciarelli Velodrome, Fiorenzuola (ITA) 12-Jul-08 to 16-Jul-08 World Junior Championships at Cape Town (RSA) 15-Aug-08 to 19-Aug-08 Olympic Track events at Beijing 27-Aug-08 to 28-Aug-08 Balkans Championships at the Olympic Velodrome, Athens (GRE) 03-Sep-08 to 07-Sep-08 European Championships at Pruszków (POL) 14-Oct-08 to 19-Oct-08 World Masters Championships at the Dunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney (AUS) 25-Mar-09 to 29-Mar-09 World Championships at Pruszków (POL)
Pruszków is staging two major championships in the next twelve months but looks from the photos to be a completely new venue. Not having any Polish I cannot provide any official details [but the Wikipedia entry for the city is “interesting”]. Searching around the web I found one site saying that the 250m indoor velodrome was constructed between 2002 and 2006. But another claims that it is unfinished and that the Euro championships could be switched to Szczecin (which is a 400m outdoor track the last I heard). Either way it will be hard to beat, or indeed equal, the organisation of the recent Manchester championships.
The World Cup venues are yet to be confirmed but other track events noted include - 16-Sep-08 to 20-Sep-08 British Championships, Manchester 11-Oct-08 Revolution 21 at Manchester 29-Nov-08 Revolution 22 at Manchester 10-Jan-09 Revolution 23 at Manchester 21-Feb-09 Revolution 24 at Manchester
Details of the plans for another Australian Revolution season are not yet available. But the European 6 Day dates are available at the UCI ....
