Start List
There are now at least two sets of scanned images of the 1946 programme pages available online. The best being at the Veteran Cycle Club Library. However these are images that need to be converted to text in order to be searchable.
But why bother? Well making them searchable means that anyone can find their contents using Google, Yahoo, etc. But equally importantly errors can be corrected. And the first rider entry in the 1946 programme - for Ernie Clements - illustrates such errors as Wikipedia is wrong on at least two points.
First Wikipedia gives his name as Ernest J when it should be Ernest A. You can double check at FreeBMD - the online register of births, marriages and deaths - by looking that the 1922 Births.
Second Wikipedia says that Ernie’s stage 1 Brighton-Glasgow win was in 1951 when it was in fact 1945. And again you can double check by looking at the limited 1951 results already online - where Frenchman Georges Blum won Stage 1 but Ernie did not compete.
